Lord Shri Devnarayan Ji

Devnarayan Ji is the folk deity of Rajasthan.

He is the adorable deity of Gurjar caste. People of Gurjar caste consider him as an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Bhopa recites his Phad with a musical instrument called Jantar.

Their main places of worship –

At Devmali in Asind, Bhilwara district

In Dev Dham Jodhpuriya of Tonk district

In Devmali of Beawar

In Dev Dungri of Chittorgarh (This Dham was built by Rana Sanga).

His father’s name was Sawai Bhoj, who was the head of Bagdawat Samaj and his mother’s name was Sendu Gujri.

Their fair is held in Asind of Bhilwara on Bhadrapada Shukla Saptami, on this day people of Gurjar community do not sell milk.

To avenge his father’s death, he killed the ruler of Bhinaya and made his elder brother the king of Bhinaya.

He attained martyrdom while fighting the Muslim invaders.

Devnarayan ji’s phad is the longest Phad in Rajasthan.

In 1992, the Government of India had also issued a postal stamp on Devnarayan ji’s phad. In 2011, a postal stamp of ₹ 5 was issued in the name of Devnarayan ji.

The Rajasthan government has declared Devnarayan Jayanti on 27 January 2023 as a state holiday.
