About Forest Survey

Forest Survey of India(FSI), an organization under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change conducts and publishes the  India state of Forest Report (ISFR) which is also known as the Indian forest survey.

The classification of forest cover used in the present report is based on tree canopy density

  • Very Dense Forest (VDF)- Forest having canopy density equal to or more than 70%.
  • Moderately Dense Forest (MDF)- Forest having canopy density equal to or more than 40% but less than 70%.
